Arran, 22 July 2011 at 16:04 hours. This photograph was taken near the summit of my final hill of the day, Beinn a'Chiliabhain. Cir Mhor is the prominent cone-shaped hill right of centre. It is reputed to be one of the best hills to walk - one for another day. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/200 sec at f / 9.0.
Arran, 22 July 2011 at 10:55 hours. Glen Rosa is a popular means of accessing the northern hills of Arran. I was dropped off where the track ends and from there an excellent path takes you through the entire glen. The mountain prominent in the middle is Cir Mor with Caisteal Abhail just behind. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/4 sec at f / 14.
Arran, 20 July 2011 at 10:15 hours. A view north on the west coast of Arran. It had just rained and the high hills were largely cloaked in cloud still. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/160 sec at f / 8.0.
Trossachs, 12 July 2011 at 12:12 hours. My descent from the summit of Ben Ledi produced this view. The small lochan ('little loch of the dead') was reputed to be named after an accident in which 200 people carrying a coffin fell through its ice one winter and drowned. Looking at it though from this viewpoint however, it appeared tiny - why on earth would they cross it? I did a bit of research when I got back and found that it was named after an old coffin road - Bealach nan Corp (Pass of the Dead) - from Glen Finglas in the west to St Bride's chapel on the opposite shore of Loch Lubnaig where I started the walk. Still it is a good, if rather macabre story. The hill to the left is Ben Vane. Camera details: EF70-200mm f/4L USM, 1/400 sec at f / 6.3.
Perthshire, 28 June 2011 at 20:48 hours. A field directly opposite to where we live, lighting up in the low evening sun. Camera details: LUMIX G VARIO 14-45/F3.5-5.6, 1/100 sec at f / 9.0.
Kingsbarns, Fife, 28 May 2011 at 19:21 hours. An early morning trip to the coast at Kingsbarns in Fife. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/100 sec at f / 10.
North-West Scotland, 19 February 2011 at 12:03 hours. The view north-west over Loch Maree - much photographed! The lone car was in the car park next to me a few minutes before. I waited for it to get into a suitable position, then pressed the shutter. Camera details: EF70-200mm f/4L USM, 1/180 sec at f / 5.6.
North-West Scotland, 18 February 2011 at 18:00 hours. Slioch, the Spear, sits brooding over Loch Maree. I liked the yellowy tendrils of grass in the foreground here. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 0.5 sec at f / 13.
North-West Scotland, 18 February 2011 at 09:46 hours. After a surprisingly comfortable night spent in the back of my Citroen in the car park nearby, I was up before dawn to take this photograph from a small hill near Little Gruinard. The early morning sky was magnificent. Beinn Ghobhlach occupies a spectacular position between two Loch Brooms. Camera details: EF70-200mm f/4L USM, 1/15 sec at f / 13.
Perthshire, 07 January 2011 at 13:34 hours. The wind suddenly got up some speed as I descended Ben Lawers, and it swept up snow, blowing it over the summit of Beinn Ghlas. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/180 sec at f / 6.7.
Blair Atholl, 06 January 2011 at 16:46 hours. Last light on this popular and well known range of hills. Carn Liath on the right, Braigh Coire Chruinn Bhalgain to the left and behind. Camera details: EF70-200mm f/4L USM, 1/90 sec at f / 8.0.
Highland, 20 December 2010 at 15:46 hours. With just a glint of sun on its top, Sgurr an Fhuarail sits majestically at the bottom end of Loch Cluanie. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/125 sec at f / 8.0.
Isle of Skye, 20 December 2010 at 11:02 hours. Another Skye icon and another pre-dawn climb in the dark. Unfortunately, another cloudy dawn! Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/4 sec at f / 22.
Isle of Skye, 19 December 2010 at 14:28 hours. A spectacular view over Loch Scavaig and the isle of Soay to Rum. Its hard to see from this wide angle but the Rum Cullin were also blanketed in snow. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/180 sec at f / 5.6.
Isle of Skye, 18 December 2010 at 13:44 hours. Blaven is a fantastically rugged, jagged mountain seen from the east. One route up it is past this lone tree. I decided on an alternative route from the south. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/90 sec at f / 6.7.
