Kitz is a german word for baby goat and you see it on the Kitzbuhel coat of arms and as sculptures throughout the town.
A typically Finnish scene; a tree-lined lake, a boat and a lodge. The man sitting on the terrace had just emerged from a sauna and jumped into the lake - its what Finns seem to like to do!
Another mosquito infested lake in northern Finland, this time near our hotel. We were using a bbq hut beside the lake on our last evening.
My wife wanted to see a wild bear and went along with a guide to one of the bear-watching hides near the Finland-Russian border and was not disappointed - she saw five bears that evening. I lent her my 300mm lens with teleconverter attached and she came back with some good images, despite the near dark conditions and 3200 ISO speed.
Whilst on holiday in northern Finland, we rented a canoe to take us down one of the rivers. This fallen tree and the stillness of the river made for a pleasant scene.
A mirror-calm lake and some lovely reflections of the pine trees in northern Finland - mosquito repellent essential on a day like this.
A simple, abstract from a lake in Finland.
A beautiful, peaceful scene in northern Finland.
As far as I could tell this bridge did not connect to any path. I found it whilst driving around some backroads in northern Finland.
Driving near Kuusamo in northern Finland one early morning, I spotted this elk not far from the side of the road. I used the car as a hide to take a few photographs before it sauntered off.
The end of a long, 3 day trek to Machu Picchu - the Inca Trail. We just made it in time for sunrise.
My wife at the fantastic sit of Machu Picchu - well worth the effort of getting to.
One of the enormous dunes that characterise the area around Sossusvlei in Namibia.
An amazing area - we hired a landrover for our time in Namibia and even then managed to get briefly stuck in the sand here.
The beautiful rich colour of the sand on the dunes in Namibia.
