Braemar, 15 June 2010 at 04:40 hours. I had been wanting to overnight on a mountain for some time - I had planned to walk the Grey Corries and Ben Nevis over three days, but weather put paid to that - and finally decided on Lochnagar. The evening was cloudy so no sunset, but waking early the next morning from a fairly comfortable night in a bivvy bag, the sky was a bit clearer. I walked up the nearby Meikle Pap and waited for the first light to paint the top of the corrie in an orange glow. Super! Camera details: 10-20mm, 10.0 sec at f / 22

I approached from the north this time (I had walked up it in the winter with a thick covering of snow), so this was a view of it I had not seen before. Near Blair Atholl, Perthshire, 31 May 2010 at 14:59 hours. The river Garry runs through Blair Atholl and down into Loch Faskally by Pitlochry. Unfortunately, a hydro scheme further upstream diverts a lot of the water so the river is really a shadow of what it used to be, to the detriment of the salmon that run up the river each autumn. Strathearn, Perthshire, 02 June 2010 at 20:00 hours. Driving along a quiet back-road one evening, I noticed a clearing in a pine wood that was carpeted with wood sorrel. The sun was just shining above the tree tops, creating long shadows and lighting up the plants beautifully. Camera details:, 4.0 sec at f / 22

Blair Atholl, Perthshire, 30 May 2010 at 17:53 hours. This is a view from the Beinn a' Ghlo range of hills near Blair Atholl. The near hill, on the right, is Meall a' Mhuirich and in the distance are Cairn Toul (left) and Ben Macdui (centre right). This was the last day of May and there was still skiing on Cairn Gorm.
