NEW WORK
| April - June 2010
Perthshire, 16 April 2010 at 08:12 hours. This is a hidden gem of a mountain. You can't see it from the road and it is only when you reach the summit of Ben Vorlich that it appears in all its glory. It is defended to the north by a steep, rocky face that requires a scramble to climb. Camera details: 10-20mm, 1/4 sec at f / 22
Perthshire, 16 April 2010 at 06:34 hours. An early start and I got this far up the slopes of Ben Vorlich before the sun rose sufficiently to light up the rocks. Camera details: 10-20mm, 1.3 sec at f / 25
Perthshire, 15 April 2010 at 16:20 hours. My son playing at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park. Camera details: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, 1/80 sec at f / 5.6
Carmarthenshire, 13 April 2010 at 07:11 hours. This is what I remember and love best about the Welsh countryside. Gently rolling hills with small, hedge-enclosed fields containing sheep and cows. In the part of Scotland where I live it is mainly arable farming and the hedges have been removed to make huge 'superfields'. Camera details: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, 1/125 sec at f / 8.0
Carmarthenshire, 13 April 2010 at 06:34 hours. Carreg Cennen Castle sits on a spectacular crag of rock in a very quiet area of Carmarthenshire. However, I was struck whilst composing the photograph that there was no escaping modern day technology as evidenced by the jets flying overhead. About a week later, it would have been different as a volcanic ash cloud from Iceland grounded all planes for a couple of days. Camera details: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, 1/5 sec at f / 22
Llanelli, South Wales, 12 April 2010 at 19:39 hours. I would have liked some low cloud to add to the drama of this sunset but it was not to be. This is Llanelli, home of the Scarlets rugby team and the town I was brought up in. Camera details: 10-20mm, 8.0 sec at f / 22
Brecon Beacons, 11 April 2010 at 12:46 hours. My high level walk through the hills of the Camarthen Fans ended here when I dropped down to this small lake. The ridge of the Fan Brycheiniog towers above. My next destination was the Dan yr Ogof caves where my lift was waiting. Camera details: 10-20mm, 1/2 sec at f / 22
Brecon Beacons, 11 April 2010 at 11:41 hours. A lone walker stands on one of the summit points of the Bannau Sir Gaer ridge. The ridge is made up of old red sandstone whilst the cliffs were formed by glacial action Camera details: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, 1/125 sec at f / 11
Brecon Beacons, 11 April 2010 at 10:25 hours. This part of the Carmarthen Fans is the highest and is a spectacular ridge walk with steep sided cliffs to the north. Whilst walking along here I first heard then saw a peregrine falcon flying around in apparent distress. I walked further along and saw a raven with the falcon's chicks. I chased it away, but it was too late it took one of the chicks and flew off with it. Camera details: 10-20mm, 1/4 sec at f / 22
Brecon Beacons, 11 April 2010 at 09:33 hours. The summit trig point of a small but characterful hill that makes up part of the Black Mountain in the Brecon Beacons. Camera details: 10-20mm, 1/6 sec at f / 22
Brecon Beacons, 11 April 2010 at 08:34 hours. The limestone pavement on the Godre Garreg Las is fantastic, but would be a nightmare to navigate through in mist. The plateau affords fine views to the north and west. Camera details: 10-20mm, 1/2 sec at f / 22
Brecon Beacons, 11 April 2010 at 06:29 hours. I waited in the April cold for the sun to rise but was obscured by low cloud. Light cloud on the horizon at dawn and dusk always makes for a moody, atmospheric light. Camera details: 10-20mm, 15.0 sec at f / 22
Brecon Beacons, 11 April 2010 at 08:30 hours. This photograph was taken on a walk over the Carmarthen Fans, a number of hills, collectively called 'The Black Mountain'. The hill in the distance, Foel Fraith (1975 feet) , was the second of the day. The whole area has loads of sinkholes; depressions in the ground formed by the limestone being dissolved away. Camera details: 10-20mm, 1/4 sec at f / 22
Llanelli, South Wales, 10 April 2010 at 19:55 hours. The sun goes down over the lighthouse at Burry Port. Worth waiting for! Camera details: 10-20mm, 25.0 sec at f / 22
Cardiff, 09 April 2010 at 13:43 hours. A small island as seen from Cardiff Bay on a fine April day. Camera details: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, 1/125 sec at f / 22
Brecon Beacons, 08 April 2010 at 13:59 hours. Curious this - a couple of engraved stones that looked like grave stones, in a very isolated spot, miles from anywhere in the eastern part of the Brecon Beacons. You can see the Sugar Loaf hill in the background. On doing some research, we found he was an MP in the latter part of the 19th Century and died in 1906. The stones are, in fact, boundary markers between two estates - Sir Bailey Bart and Mrs. McNamara! Camera details: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, 1/125 sec at f / 9.0
Brecon Beacons, 08 April 2010 at 16:41 hours. On a visit to south Wales, my brother and I walked some hills near Crickhowell - a lovely area and a fine day with no wind. The walk entailed a long ridge walk, then a gradual descent and return through a valley. Camera details: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, 1/100 sec at f / 13
Glen Lyon, 04 April 2010 at 17:52 hours. A different view from what most people see; this is taken from near the summit of Carn Mairg to the south. Camera details: 10-20mm, 0.8 sec at f / 22
Glen Lyon, 04 April 2010 at 18:46 hours. An alternative view to the famous mountain, from the hills above Glen Lyon. Camera details: 10-20mm, 1/6 sec at f / 25
Glen Lyon, 04 April 2010 at 19:25 hours. Some interesting sculptures formed by the wind near the summit of Meall na Aighean near Glen Lyon. Camera details: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, 1/25 sec at f / 11
