NEW WORK
| July - September 2010
Perthshire, 30 September 2010 at 16:25 hours. Autumn is often said to be the best season for photographers. The rich orange and yellow colours are not found at any other time and transform ordinary looking landscapes into something special. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/30 sec at f / 6.7.
Perthshire, 30 September 2010 at 15:59 hours. This view from near Loch Turret shows Craig Rossie over in the Ochil Hills at last light. Camera details: EF300mm f/4L IS USM, 1/250 sec at f / 5.6.
Perthshire, 30 September 2010 at 15:18 hours. Another afternoon on the hills above Loch Turret. Not so many mountain hares this time and initially I wondered why until I saw three or four red kites soaring above. The day initially was sunny but cloud blew in later on. There were some brief breaks in the cloud as shown here. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/125 sec at f / 8.0.
Perthshire, 25 September 2010 at 17:24 hours. This view is from the hills above Loch Turret, near Crieff. It was near sunset after a beautiful autumn day. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/4 sec at f / 22.
Perthshire, 25 September 2010 at 17:12 hours. An unusual view perhaps, but I like it. The mountain hare was facing the other way so instead of a sharp picture of its behind, I opted to focus on the grasses and hope that the two ears sticking up would be enough to identify it as a hare. Camera details: EF300mm f/4L IS USM +1.4x, 1/180 sec at f / 5.6.
Perthshire, 25 September 2010 at 17:04 hours. This mountain hare was fantastic to photograph. He/she was unaware of my presence as I crept ever closer. The wind was in my face and sun was low over my shoulder. He carried on with his normal activities - napping, washing, eating as I took a number of photographs. Thankyou hare! Camera details: EF300mm f/4L IS USM +1.4x, 1/750 sec at f / 5.6.
Perthshire, 25 September 2010 at 16:46 hours. This mountain hare had just napped for a short while and was now stretching. It proceeded to feed on the vegetation around. Also, interestingly, it appeared to try scraping some of the lichen off the rocks with its teeth. I'm not sure how much nourishment it got from this. Camera details: EF300mm f/4L IS USM +1.4x, 1/350 sec at f / 5.6.
Perthshire, 10 September 2010 at 19:50 hours. A lovely sunset in the Earn valley in September. Camera details: , 0.5 sec at f / 8.0.
Perthshire, 10 September 2010 at 19:38 hours. I'd been meaning to pop down to these fields for the last week or so as the sun was setting andf finally got a chance to whizz down on my bike with my 4 four-old son standing on the cross bar and holding on to me. The sky glowed orange but I neverthe less, I still thought this worked better in black and white. Camera details: , 15.0 sec at f / 22.
Perth, 04 September 2010 at 13:29 hours. I love these small owls. The last time I saw one was on Skomer Island. This one was photographed at a raptor display at the Scottish Natural Heritage Photographic Fair in Perth. Camera details: EF70-200mm f/4L USM, 1/180 sec at f / 4.5.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 10:10 hours. Later in the morning as I was descending Meall Garbh, the tops started to clear. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/90 sec at f / 5.6.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 09:50 hours. Some low cloud sweeps over Loch Tay far below. Taken from Meall Garbh, near Ben Lawers. Camera details: EF70-200mm f/4L USM, 1/500 sec at f / 6.7.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 09:37 hours. The swirling mists added an aura of mystery to this secluded glen, north of An Stuc. Camera details: EF70-200mm f/4L USM, 1/350 sec at f / 6.7.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 09:22 hours. The southern slopes of Ben Lawers and its neighbours belong to a large nature reserve, owned by the National Trust. It has a rich variety of alpine plants growing there. This is taken on the shoulder between An Stuc and Meall Garbh. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/4 sec at f / 19.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 08:56 hours. A brief break in the low cloud that was blowing in from the north allowed just enough time for me to take this image of the very top of Ben Lawers from the slopes of An Stuc, its Munro neighbour. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1/180 sec at f / 6.7.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 07:56 hours. The area near lochan nan cat, at the north-west foot of Ben Lawers was very boggy and my socks were already wet from treading on sphagnum moss and numerous puddles. Cotton grass is a good indication that the area is boggy as indicated here. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 0.3 sec at f / 19.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 07:42 hours. A small pool of water, flanked by various grasses, produced a nice reflection of the rocky mound called Creag an Fhithich. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 1.0 sec at f / 22.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 07:12 hours. A mist covered Ben Lawers not long after dawn. Ben Lawers is the highest peak in Perthshire and at 1214m, it is the 10th highest in Scotland. I only had the morning so did not climb it, choosing instead to go up An Stuc and Meall Garbh. Camera details: EF70-200mm f/4L USM, 1/125 sec at f / 6.7.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 06:57 hours. The slopes of Meall Garbh light up in the early morning sunlight. The small burn leaves lochan nan cat and eventually empties into Loch Tay. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 4.0 sec at f / 22.
West Perthshire, 26 August 2010 at 06:53 hours. A brief glimpse of sun just after sunrise. Low cloud started to blow in over the hill tops too. The small loch is Lochan nan cat. Camera details: EF17-40mm f/4L USM, 4.0 sec at f / 22.
