Spring at Little Orchard is one of the best times to visit. Our front garden has masses of Lady's Smock and clumps of daffodils and the blossom on the apple and plum trees comes out. The weather can be very good in spring, although tourist numbers will not be that high. Salmon fishing can be excellent on the River Tummel by Pitlochry and golf on the nearby Blair Atholl course is in full flow.

In summer, paddles in the River Tilt become possible. The long days (it doesn't get dark until after 11pm) makes walks/cycle rides further afield become possible; perhaps a walk over the three nearest Munro's and back down Glen Tilt? Many fruits are available to pick from the garden such as gooseberries, blackcurrants and raspberries. There are regular plays and musicals on at Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Summer salmon fishing for grilse is good sport on the River Tummel, Garry or Tilt. The annual Blair Atholl Horse Trials usually start in late August and is quite a spectacle.

Autumn is another beautiful time to visit. The nearby woods have plenty of beech trees whose leaves now start to turn rich browns and oranges. Tourist numbers go down, although many attractions stay open. Be sure to walk or cycle up Glen Tilt and listen to the roar of the stag red deer. A walk to the waterfalls at Bruar or the Hermitage near Dunkeld are other rewarding walks during Autumn. October is when 'Enchanted Forest' runs near Pitlochry - if you are in the area, this is not to be missed (see http://www.enchantedforest.org.uk for details)

Winter is very quiet in Blair Atholl, although the castle does remain open on some days. Prices are comparatively cheap. A walk onto the nearby Munro's on a cold, but bright day will reward you with fantastic views, even across to Ben Nevis.
